The Flasher is a student-run writing contest. It runs from March 1 to August 31 each year. There are six rounds, one per month.
The aim of the game is to write a piece of flash fiction based around the topic for each month. See About Flash Fiction to learn more about flash, or The Rules to find out how to submit.
We choose a winning story at the end of each month, and the author receives a prize. All entries are published on this website (theflasher.wordpress.com) and a selection of the best stories will be published in a paper edition after submissions close. The paper edition will be distributed at selected universities in Melbourne.
The shady characters behind this dastardly scheme:
Christine Todd is the lesser-known, musically-impaired daughter of the demon barber of Fleet Street. She was born in London in the late 19th century, but came to Melbourne to study Journalism and ride trams.
Miriam Reynoldson is a recent Deakin graduate, currently researching the possibility of doing nothing for the rest of ever. She has long messy hair, a home espresso machine, and the usual number of toes.
You can contact us at flasher.contest@gmail.com to ask questions, make comments, suggestions or donations, or to submit a story.
